The combination of good wound care coupled with microcurrent as an adjunctive therapy was shown to be effective in accelerating recovery in cases of chronic wounds.
Microcurrent devices used in this study were Avazzia Scalar-Qi pulsed electro-magnetic field device attached to an Avazzia Pro-Sport professional microcurrent device at the hospital. Patients were loaned a BEST-RSI for home-use. Avazzia microcurrent devcies using B.E.S.T.™ Bio-electro stimulation technology help redress an underlying physiological dysfunction as well as reducing its symptoms.
The mechanism of action appears to act as a trigger vasodilation which increases perfusion to the wound. This is by increasing levels of Nitric Oxide which is a potent vasodilator (4). In terms of pain management, Cortisol and TNF-α levels are reduced(5).
The ease of use of Avazzia microcurrent devices advocates its use in accelerating wound care. It could be applied as a first priority on the list of wound care therapy. Avazzia BEST devices are US FDA cleared for pain relief.
“EFFICACY OF MICROCURRENT AS AN ADJUNCT THERAPY IN THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC WOUNDS” by Dr. Harikrishna K.R. Nair, MD, FMSWCP, Wound Care Unit, Department of Internal Medicine, SCACC Hospital, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; presented at the 2015 International Wound & Biotherapy Conference Malaysia.
